Reintroduction of sugary foods givin’ me the runs

In Uncategorized on December 24, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Since being on holiday and having an ongoing bout of flu, I’ve had much more sweet stuff (cupcakes, cookies, chocolate bars) and they don’t always sit well in my system. I’d like to think it’s because I have weaned my body off most junk food since this get-fit mission began. It sounds dark but sometimes I wish my body would naturally revolt against foods that are bad for me (when I’m about to eat them and not just when I’m old and dying because of them).

I had a chocolate bar on Monday and another on Wednesday (yummy Yorkie raisin and biscuit bar – 332 calories and alotta fat and sugar) – it tastes good but the guilt I feel afterwards and the slightly sick feeling, do not.

I am still coughing alot so not over this flu 100% but I might try and workout using the Wii Fit this holiday weekend. The gym is closed most of the time during this period and I’m not sure if I can take a rigorous workout right now.

Weightloss due to flu

In Uncategorized on December 22, 2009 at 11:52 pm

This flu is some nasty bug. Both hubby and I have been wiped out for the last week, along with most of our family. Little energy to go workout and appetite is poor. Weight has dropped slightly… *weak whoopie*

Weight – 94.9 kg

(yaaaay!)

Back and still on the wagon!

In Uncategorized on December 18, 2009 at 11:39 pm

It’s been ages since I have posted, because I’ve been on holiday!

I have family visiting from abroad and we had this 10 day long trip up north. It involved late nights, copious amounts of rich wedding food and virtually none of the workouts I have come to love.

Although, I did try on one day – try to get a workout that is. I walked and jogged (mostly walked) for 25 min, did lunges and squats, etc. for 10 min and various kinds of sit ups, leg lifts for  20 min. Pretty gold huh! I was sweating heavily almost throughout and I hurt the day after.

But that’s it. That is all the exercise I got and i was not happy wih myself.

When we got back from the trip, my husband and I avoided the weighing scale for days. The abdominal tightness we had achieved in recent months have somewhat disturbingly given way to ”jello-like”… on that all too familiar feeling.

But we aren’t being too hard on ourselves. We are (still) on holiday and we feel an underlying motivation that would ensure we get back on the workout wagon come first week of January (which is when our family leave).

Anyway, today we picked up the courage to weigh ourselves post-wedding festivities and both hubby and I have lost about a kilo each! We’re utterly shocked and can only put this down to the fact that those controlled portions we’re instinctly choosing since starting on this weight-loss mission is more engrained than we thought.

Oh and we’ve had flu since about 3 days ago. That might have alot to do with it do.

Whatever it is due to, the weih-in is hugely encouraging for me… It beats gaining all the lost weight back, which is what I thought we would do.

Woohoo!

I take that back

In Uncategorized on December 2, 2009 at 11:54 pm

I’m hurting almost all over and it’s got to be that Abs Blast class and the Dance Aerobics that I did on Monday, so I spoke too soon when I questioned their effectiveness. I am so tired today that I needed a nap and couldn’t bring bring myself to go for a workout. My muscles are hurting and I think they need at least until tomorrow.

Good news is that I’ve been eating better and my weight is back down to last week’s 96.4 kg.

What Calorie has shown me

In Uncategorized on December 1, 2009 at 1:22 pm

I blogged the other day about joining Calorie Count, the free website with some great tools to help people keep track of what goes in (food, etc.) and what goes out (calories lost through exercise and even just sitting around doing nothing).

Well, I’ve kept 2 full day diaries and here’s a snapshot from yesterday:

If the tables above don’t display properly, just click on the title of this post to view the post in full screen.

That’s a calorie deficit of about 873 calories, if the estimates above are to be believed. They say you should avoid having a deficit of more than a 1000 calories a day or your body goes into starvation mode. And they say you should have a deficit of at least 500 calories a day (and therefore, 3500 a week) to lose 1 lb.

The Calorie Count tool is really helpful, and easy for me cos’ I frankly had no idea how my food was adding up each day and where I could make cuts or raise my intake healthily.

Back on the wagon

In Uncategorized on December 1, 2009 at 12:59 pm

My annual gym membership started yesterday and I feel pretty good, particularly since the distressing weight gain of the previous week.

Yesterday I tried a different gym class – in fact, I tried two. Ab Blast and Dance Aerobics.

Ab Blast was ok – full 40 minutes spent on the mat doing various kinds of crunches. I struggled with the points I had to keep my legs in the air… argh, but otherwise my abdominal muscles don’t hurt today.

Dance Aerobics was ok – alot of coordination which I spent too much time getting to grips with. At least it kept me moving for about 50 minutes.

This morning I used the Wii Fit Board to exercise and I have to say, it was tough. I did various Yoga and muscle workout poses (lunges, sit-ups, stretch and holds) for about 22 minutes, Hula Hoops for 6 minutes and Jogging for 3 minutes. I was very sweaty and breathing heavily through most of it.

If I have time I might go for a gym class this evening. Let’s see cos’ I have alot to do before my in-laws arrive from abroad tomorrow!
