So close to a milestone

In Uncategorized on April 23, 2010 at 11:43 am

I haven’t posted in a while but I am still on the wagon, although it’s been a struggle. I remember in February, I pledged that I would try and get to under 90 kg by the end of the month. It didn’t happen – not in February, not in March and I was quite disappointed.

I don’t know what it is exactly – it might be that I am overeating, because the days I restrict my calorie intake, I see a big difference.

Anyway, I try and take each day as it comes.

It’s the end of April and I’m finally at 90 kg.

Also, I measured my waist (the narrowest part of my torso) and my hips today.

Waist: 33 in
Hips: 42 in

Looking back at one of my first posts ever on this blog, it seems I have lost 5.5 inches on my waist and 6.5 inches on my hips since October.

It’s hard to believe, I had that much to lose on me and that I still could lose alot more. Where was it all?!

I am still wearing most of my old clothes – they are loose but I wash them regularly so they stay snug and sometimes I have to put a safety pin on.

I am wearing mostly size 14s at the top and 16s at the bottom.

I still have 15 kgs to lose before I am at that ever-elusive ‘ideal’ weight of 75 kgs, but right now my next goal is 85 kg. I want to get there before our next big holiday at the end of June.

Summary:

Weight: 90 kg / 198 lbs
Waist: 33 in
Hips: 42 in

Weight lost: 11.8 kg / 26 lbs
Waist lost: 5.5 in
Hip lost: 6.5 in

Letting it get to my head

In Uncategorized on March 3, 2010 at 4:43 pm

I now weigh 92.1 kg. I have lost almost 10 kgs since October 2009, but I’ve just recovered from a temporary setback. I think for two-three weeks in Feb I ate heavy, fatty food and that dented my progress. I love my curry, and more importantly, I love curry cooked by my mom and my mom-in-law. So I went down to 92.2 kg in early Feb and then climbed back up to 93.8 kg in the following fortnight.

I was and am still working out regularly (3-4 times a week) but it really is true, what they say about food intake being a major factor in weight gain and loss.

I’m back on track now. Lighter than I’ve been in years, wearing size 14s and size 16s – mostly size 16s.

I went shopping recently. Tried on what must have been dozens of clothing items. Most I didn’t like but what I really came away with is how overweight I still am.

I mean, I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve lost 10 kgs but I still have 17 kgs to go before I’m within touching distance of a ‘normal’ weight.

Those changing room mirrors know no subtlety. so I felt sad that I couldn’t fit into all the 16s and 14s I picked out. I refused to buy larger sizes because I want to make myself wait till I lose more of this weight before I reward myself.

Making progress

Really proud of myself – I worked hard at the Bums, Tums and Thighs class and managed to do most of the moves along with others although not nearly as fast.

And made my own lunch today! Leftover chicken, sugar snap pea pods and lots of yummy coriander.

Weight now: 93 kg

Weight lost since Oct 2009: 8.8 kg (19.4 lbs)

A little help…

In Uncategorized on January 18, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Today, I started taking a natural supplement that helps prevent the body from not absorbing all the fat in the food I consume. It’s made of cactus fibre, and it’s meant to be taken only with fatty meal.

I just had a Linda McCartney Vegetarian Lasagne for lunch, which has 20 g of fat (ouch!) so I started the supplement with this meal.

Let’s see how it goes! I think it might give me a slight boost – I’m not expecting miracles and don’t intend to give up my exercising and portion control!

A milestone

Today, I fit into undergarments I bought for my wedding 7 years ago.

I can’t begin to tell you how satisfying that feels. The straps, cups, clasp – everything fits beautifully, compared to more recent items that I’d been wearing for months before my weight loss.

Those items were starting to feel quite lose, not just in the straps but even the cups. I was going to go get re-fitted and buy new ones.

It’s a much-perpetuated myth that women (and men) by default want bigger breasts. It’s simply not true. There is such a thing as too big – and judging from the dozens of responses I received on this topic when I posted on a weight-loss forum, I know I’m not alone.

My newly discovered wedding undergarment is a full strap size smaller and 1-2 cup sizes smaller. I am thrilled!

Someone recently asked me what motivates me to lose weight. Well, you know why I started to lose weight – it was a health issue. But what keeps me going now is the huge increase in my clothing options – yes, shopping and the love of it!

Pain, o sweet pain!

In Uncategorized on January 6, 2010 at 11:16 pm

I’m hurting from Monday’s Bums, Tums and Thighs workout and yesterday’s Pilates. I didn’t feel like I worked that hard but it’s probably my muscles feeling the shock after being a month away.

I had to cancel my attendance at today’s Bums, Tums and Thighs class – my body is going to punish me if I don’t give it a break!

Back in business after the holidays

In Uncategorized on January 5, 2010 at 12:57 pm

December was a write off in terms of exercise. I was on holiday for 10 days, had the flu for two weeks and then the gym was closed for several days over Christmas/New Year.

I felt guilty – I could have gone jogging and I could have done some calisthenics, but I was so tired all the time! I felt the jelly belly coming back and my clothes felt tighter.

But the month wasn’t a complete write off. I have made progress with my weight loss. Perhaps not for the right reasons, but hey, it could be worse - I could have gained back all the weight I lost considering the way I ate in December!

I am now at 94.7 kg – lightest I’ve been in years I think.

And last night, I went for my first Bum, Tums and Thighs class in a month. It was a different instructor – the usual is away till next week, and it was alright. Tough but not quite as tough which is probably a blessing given that I haven’t worked out in so long.

I’m hurting today. Sweeeet pain…

I go back to the gym for a Pilates Based workout today. Looking forward to it!
